Achievements

For the past 23 years now since Tumaini Letu was established, there are so many remarkable changes that includes the organization changing from a women group into Local Non- Governmental organization, We have also changed our approaches from service delivery programming into systems strengthening and community empowerment approaches. Tumaini LETU has become member of district, region and national NGOs network that includes (KAPAMU- A district NGO network, KANGONET- A region NGO network and TANGONET- A district NGO network. Since 2010 Tumaini Letu is under the leadership of the board of directors that was previously called Executive Committee. Tumaini Letu vision and mission has remained the same but our main focus has remained with only with young children and vulnerable households where by previously our target beneficiaries the entire community was including women and men, youth, PLWHIV and the entire community.

Programmatically there are so many changes that includes improvement in nutrition and health status among young children supported with nutritious food in our day care centers, Learning environments for children are improved as we have managed/succeeded to construct two new day care centers from BWF funds, providing playing and teaching materials and improving playing grounds.

Community has actively participated in the care and support of our education and nutrition program as they have contributes beans, maize and to support nutrition programs for their children and actively participating preparation of porridge and food for their children and contributing locally available materials for construction of day care centers. Improved knowledge on the importance of day care and preschool education to young children among community members through seminars, workshops, trainings and awareness creation meetings as the number of young children joining our day care centers are increasing year by year in the last five years.

Tumaini Letu interventions targets high risk in hard reaching population and marginalized people. This includes fishing population, Miners’ population, Borders population, MARPs, Sexual commercial workers, Drug abusers, Youth groups, Prisoners and General Population. Other vulnerable groups which are reached by Tumaini Letu- Tumaini Letu Nshamba are Food in secured people, people being faced by Poverty, Illiteracy, Orphans, Widow/ Widowers, Health insecurity, Rural remoteness people who Lack basic social services, the situation which affect poor peasants. Moreover these people have been affected by climate change which leads to lack of service such as safe water and sanitation. Also poor housing, poor farming techniques and poor access to education information are among the problems facing the beneficiaries we work with. Specifically in Kagera region which is the main quarter of the Organization, the region and its inhabitants are characterized with the following features
